Throughout about five 90-minute sessions, we’ll sculpt a “doc song” directly from a lived experience that’s meaningful to you!

The sessions are generally organized as follows:

• Session 1: Drawing forth a story We’ll figure out which specific story from your life will be the source material for our creative project and start to extract the gems from that story as content for the song

• Session 2: Poetic organizing*We’ll refine those gems into a poetic train of thought until they start looking like verse lyrics

• Session 3: Melody making We’ll build the rhythm, melody, and simple chord structure for the verse

• Session 4: Melody making pt. 2We’ll apply that structure to the remaining verses and work on a bridge

• Session 5: Song arrangement and recording/performance. We’ll put the finishing touches on the song and record an acoustic version of our hard work!

*For those just looking for new lyrical content, we can complete that process in 3 sessions.

Let’s take that acoustic doc song to the next level! We’ll collaborate with a music producer to get your song ready to release on streaming platforms YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, etc. This includes adding other instrumental parts, recording the vocal melody, and balancing the sounds together for a perfect mix.

You’ll receive two final products: a complete version (vocal melody and instruments) for sharing/posting and a karaoke (instruments without the vocal melody) version to perform live.

Timelines will vary depending on the complexity of the musical arrangement.

Anyone is welcome to pursue this path regardless of musical experience! As a seasoned singer and performer, I can coach you through the recording process if you want to sing the melody for the final product.

This package is perfect for schools and community organizations looking for musical exploration, connection through storytelling, and accomplishment through collaboration! We structure the session(s) to fit your group’s scheduling needs, with the aim to have an acoustic song completed by the end of our time together. You’ll receive a recording of what we completed within the timeframe of our workshop.
