Grief moved through all of our lives in one way or another over the last 3 years, both in terms of the physical lives lost, and the lives we “could’ve” had. Andre Jamal talks about how the death of someone he knew was a catalyst for reflection on many of the changes he experienced in life before and after that. “Grieving”, which he co-wrote and produced, brings to light the journey we all take in the fight for our own peace.

Being there through the tough times, makes celebrating the fun times that much sweeter and richer!

s1. Ep.4 "An Ode to Jody's Grandfather" by Jody Kerchner

Jun 21, 2022

In the spirit of Father’s day, Dr. Jody Kerchner and I honor her paternal ancestor through song, as we think about the ways in which we are challenged or encouraged to show up in the world as innately creative beings.  There's a slight plot twist in regards to the song in this episode, and you might even hear some vocals from yours truly!

As you listen to this episode I invite you to reflect upon the ways in which *you* show up creatively, and not just artistically. And how does that benefit all of those who have come before you and those who are coming after you? Come join us in those ideas and more in today’s conversation! See you inside!

s1. Ep.3 "Girl Situation" by Will Foote

Jun 4, 2022

Will Foote switches up how we think a love song should go! He's not only worked with the documentary songwriting process for 10+ years (from its early development), but he continuously helps shape the evolution of the practice now.

What in the world do we do with the love we come into the world with? In this episode, we talk about the challenge of balancing some of the different ways that shows up in real life. Some day, that harmony will come!

Unapologetic plug! We are co-facilitating the 2022 June (5-11) Documentary Songwriters Teaching Artist Training Intensive! I'm setting the intention for love ALL UP and AROUND and THROUGH our virtual space with Doc Song community students, teaching artists, board members, powerful story sources, and humanitarian musicians alike! s1. Ep.2 "I Want a Lock" by Clara Schneid

May 27, 2022

Clara Schneid drops some gems around internal and interpersonal growth and healing in her journey! How do we take care of ourselves when we are also trying to take care of the people that we care about after they have harmed us?

This episode contains content depicting sexual assault; we discuss the process of understanding the dynamics of our boundaries in complex relationships. Figuring out how to consciously respond to the ways in which our trauma responses and coping mechanisms show up is some of the most  challenging but important work we can do in our lifetime. On that note, this content might  be triggering for folks, so I encourage you to take care of yourself in whatever ways you feel are necessary. I affirm your journey towards growth, rest, care, connection, and self-reclamation. Asé!
